Depression in the elderly

Senile depression is a very common mood disorder in the elderly population. This disorder may manifest itself with the more typical symptoms of depression, such as sadness, loss of interest, or social isolation, but it may also, in a large number of cases, present with an experience and symptomatology different from that commonly described in adulthood: for this reason, depression is often underestimated in the elderly population, undiagnosed, and therefore untreated.
