Montecatini, Minister Giorgetti's challenge: "Relaunch spa on the Salsomaggiore model"
Montecatini Terme on the Salsomaggiore model. This is the challenge issued by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, who was present this morning, June 1, in the spa town for a meeting with economic categories. The revival of the city's brand is, according to the ministerial holder, the point from which to start.
"What can be done, without falling back into unfeasible, Pindaric projects? With a pragmatic logic we can start with the extraordinary maintenance of certain establishments: it is 4-500 thousand euros that we will get out of somewhere. Then we need two basic ingredients: the size of the entrepreneur who invests in the long term in the Montecatini brand and the public hand."
Without the intervention of the state, region and municipality, according to Giorgetti, "the entrepreneur cannot solve the problems. The public must protect the historical heritage, while the rest must be projected into the dimension of enterprise." And for this the example of Salsomaggiore is given. "Here," the minister says again, "Cassa Depositi e Prestiti intervened in the purchase of the properties and a private party entered into the management. We have to convince entrepreneurs that there is an entrepreneurial formula that can work: if it has happened elsewhere, with less history, less tradition and less brand, I do not understand why it cannot happen in Montecatini as well. But the offer will not be able to be only that of the classic spa, as what works today is wellness."
Giorgetti also touched on national issues such as inflation. "Today in Italy it is under control, it is not what it was two years ago or a year ago, but it continues to be the number one problem." On tourism, however: "It makes 12-13 percent of the GDP of a country like ours, and if I look at the data, which I monitor weekly, they are comforting and contribute to the overall cash. There are sectors that will slow down, such as construction, it is clear that the squeeze we gave on the Superbonus will produce a contraction in that sector, but I trust that with tourism and public works there will be a compensation," Giorgetti further explained.
On Istat estimates of GDP growth, Giorgetti says he is "satisfied. Italy is doing much better than many European countries. We are above the European average however, the ambition is always to do better. Then we are promoted and that's good."
The minister then spstated in Prato, where he also spoke about the flood and the contributions made available by the government.
